Getting Through the Winter

This was our first winter in North Carolina, so we weren't really sure what kind of weather to expect. All I knew was that it HAD to be better than Buffalo. It was actually kind of nice. It was definitely cold and snowed 3-4 times, but Spring came by the end of March. I can handle winter, just not the loooooong Buffalo 7 month winter. I guess it's pretty uncommon for it to snow that much here, so everything shuts down at the threat of snow. And when I say everything, I mean everything! One night that a storm was forecast, I went to get something from the store and it looked like a ghost town. It hadn't started snowing yet, but at 8 pm, even Walgreen's was closed! The nice part about that is the base was closed a few times, so Richard got to have some random days off. I won't ever complain about that!

We had to get creative passing the cold days away, so Ella and Ruby built a "nest" in their room and got to sleep in it for a few nights.

This might be my favorite thing ever! I love seeing Annie laying on her belly and coloring away. Ella and Ruby color all the time, so she has naturally picked it up as well. She even holds the crayons really well.

And she noticed the camera!

Ruby must have had some WILD dreams in the night, because this was her hair when she woke up:

And Daddy was kind enough to take these two out in the snow to build a snow princess. They couldn't have been happier. And I'm pretty sure Ella's snow pants are 18 months size. And Ruby's coat got caught in an unfortunate laundry accident with a blue crayon. At least they're just playing in the back yard, not out in public.

And here's the little monkey, climbing back and forth from the chair to the couch. Always a fun pastime.
