Richard is deep in the midst of finals, so on Friday night I was leisurely wasting time at the mall, when to my surprise, he called and told me to hurry home because he was taking me on a date. I was beginning to think my husband didn't exist any more, since he leaves for school before I get up and doesn't come home until 2 am because he's been holed up in the anatomy lab every night. He told me to pick up Stephanie on my way home because she was going to babysit Ella

for us. When I got home, Richard was waiting with some gorgeous flowers and he was all dressed up. I hurried and changed and we headed out. (I was still clueless on where we were going).
We had reservations at Scotch & Sirloin, which was really nice. I think we still love Texas Roadhouse best for steak, but it was a nice fancy place to try.

Richard wouldn't tell me what we were doing next, so I guessed lots of different things like lazertag, ice skating, the movies, all the normal "date" things. But was I ever wrong! We drove to the city and parked downtown. We walked in the FREEZING cold to the beautiful Shea Theater where I finally figured out that we were

seeing RENT!!!!!! This is my most favorite play. I saw it in San Francisco on my 18th birthday and have raved about it to Richard for a long time. I even got him singing "Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes" long before he ever saw it. The most amazing part is that I knew it was a sacrifice for him to go. Not just because he should have been studying, but because the play has to do with homosexuality and AIDS, which most straight guys aren't really into hearing people sing about. But in the end, he said he appreciated the awesome talent of the singers and thought it was really good. I absolutely loved it!!!! The character who played Roger had a slight English accent in this one, so that was fun. And the girl who played Maureen could have had a stronger voice, but her Leap of Faith (Mooing) monologue was incredible.
Richard is the best husband ever!!! What a great surprise. The best early Christmas present I could have hoped for. And thanks so much to Steph for watching our little Ella. Our outings without her are few and far between, so when we do get to go on a "real" date, we live it up! As they say in Rent...."No day but today!"
